Botswana Ranked The Most Peaceful Country

Botswana, ranked first (1st) in Africa and 34th in the world out of 144 nations, was presented the 2009 Global Peace Index award at this year’s Global Symposium of Peaceful Nations in November in Washington D.C. H.E. Mr. Caesar Lekoa, Botswana Ambassador to the United States, received the award on behalf of the Botswana government.

The Institute for Economics and Peace singled out Botswana as the most peaceful nation in Sub-Saharan Africa. This Institute collates and calculates information on 144 nations on an annual basis, and ranks them from the most peaceful to the least peaceful nations. It also undertakes research and education on the relationship between economic development, business and peace.
