Loveland Ski Area is announcing its earliest opening day in 40 years.

The ski area about 50 miles west of Denver. It  has opened 9am yesterday, which makes it the first ski area in North America to open this season.

The Boreal ski area on Donner Summit in California plans to open Saturday.

Arapahoe Basin often vies with Loveland to be the first Colorado ski area to open. It plans to open Friday, its earliest start ever.
