Government Apologizes for Commerical Travel Warnings

The White House has issued an official apology after Vice President Joe Biden made comments suggesting that commercial travel is unsafe in light of the recent outbreak of swine flu.

“If you’re out in the middle of a field and someone sneezes, that’s one thing,” Biden commented on the Today Show on NBC. “If you’re in a closed aircraft, or closed container, or closed car or closed classroom, it’s a different thing.”

Biden also said “in a confined aircraft when one person sneezes; it goes all the way through the aircraft,” outraging the travel industry.

James May, president of Air Transportation Association of America, an airline lobbyist, responded in a statement noting that the airline industry has received no indication from the government that air travel is unsafe for healthy individuals.
