Orbitz: New Pricing System

In the “fee war” between travel booking websites, Orbitz has introduced a new plan to edge out the competition.

Along with a short-term promotion that cuts booking fees until July 15, Reuters reports Orbitz is now putting the full price of reservations, including taxes and fees, as the front-page rate display.

Competing websites such as Expedia, Priceline, and Travelocity display the price of hotels and airfare before taxes and fees, adding them into the total cost after the customer has started the booking process.

Taxes and fees make up roughly 15 percent of the cost of all reservations made via travel booking websites, though some websites charge more than others. Currently, Orbitz and Priceline charge less in taxes and fees than competing companies.
