Icelandair is making Denver its ninth North American gateway, and is celebrating the occasion with “Mile High Getaway” and “Sense of Reykjavik” tours.

On May 11, 2012, the airline’s flight 670 will begin flying nonstop between Denver International Airport and Reykjavik on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The Mile High Getaway package takes visitors to volcanic Reykjanes Peninsula in the south-western end of Iceland near Reykjavik, including a visit to the world-famous Blue Lagoon, where visitors can relax in the toasty waters of this geothermal spa.

Starting at $679, the package includes round-trip airfare from Denver, two nights’ stay at Icelandair Natura hotel, early check-in with welcome breakfast on arrival, and the Reykjanes Peninsula and Golden Circle tours.

The Sense of Reykjavik package is designed to please food-lovers. With the package, visitors enjoy samples of local gourmet food and a three-course dinner, including a “Let’s Talk Iceland” show, at Vikingakrain, a new Viking-theme restaurant in historical Reykjavik.

In addition to these palate-pleasing activities, visitors can enjoy admission to museums, swimming pools, local buses and various discounts at shops and restaurants with the 48-hour Reykjavik Welcome Card.

The package includes round-trip airfare, two nights at Center Hotel in Old Town Reykjavik, 3-hour Sense of Reykjavik tour, three-course dinner and show at Vikingakrain restaurant, the Reykjavik Welcome Card, and more.

Icelandair’s new Denver location is making it all the easier for Iceland-lovers to visit the chilly land of volcanic wonders next spring.

“We were thrilled to choose Denver from a short-list of potential new gateway cities, as we feel it is a natural fit for Icelandair. Denverites will love the nature, lifestyle and culture of Iceland, while Icelanders will feel at home with the landscape, active lifestyle, and independent philosophy in Denver,” said Thorsteinn Egilsson, General Manager of Icelandair the Americas. “We look forward to strengthening the bridge to Europe from the West.”
