Cruise Around One of Montana’s Scenic Highways

Put on your driving gloves and take a spin around the Pintler Veteran’s Memorial Scenic Highway or “Pintler Scenic Loop” in the Big Sky State. Uncrowded roadways, beautiful vistas and quaint communities are abundant in Montana’s Gold West Country, located in the southwestern region of the state.

The “Pintler Scenic Loop” is located between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. The 64-mile roadway connects Drummond and Anaconda with stops at Philipsburg, Granite Ghost Town and Georgetown Lake along the way.

The historic town of Philipsburg was once a silver and sapphire mining camp and is now dedicating to preserving its Wild West History.

The mining camp of Granite was abandoned after the silver panic of 1893, but the union hall, dance hall and hospital still stand. In its heyday, the mine yielded $40 million of silver.

Georgetown Lake is a favorite among summer and winter recreationalists. Windsurfing and fishing are popular activities on the lake.

End the tour with a visit to Anaconda, a historic copper-smelting town. Check out the Washoe Theater and Anaconda Smoke Stack State Park, which is home to one of the largest free-standing masonry structures in the world.
