Spain Takes the Crown for World’s Most Pristine Beaches

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) has recognized Spain for its dedication to environmentally friendly and safe development of its coastline, honoring the country with the highest number of Blue Flag awards for the 2011 season.

The FEE is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization consisting of 65 organizations in 60 member countries in Europe, Africa, Oceania, Asia, North America and South America. The initiative issues its annual awards based on water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management as well as safety and other services.

Blue Flag awards were given to the Spanish regions of Galicia, Valencia, Catalonia and Andalusia.
