Upcoming Trip? TSA’s Secure Flight Requires Specific Info for Air Travel

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has developed Secure Flight, a program that compares airline passenger information against U.S. government watch lists.

The Secure Flight process is now mandatory for all domestic and international travel on U.S. airlines as well as foreign carriers who fly into and out of the U.S. This process will help prevent watch list misidentifications and expedite the flying traveler’s experience.

Travelers who are a part of this program, have had the option in the past to provide his or her full name, gender and date of birth when booking Delta travel. There have been a few changes put in place.

Now it’s required to provide this information as it appears on a non-expired government-issued photo ID for upcoming and anticipated trips. This is going into effect November 1, 2010, and accurate information is not provided prior to 72 hours before the scheduled departure, reservations may be canceled. So make sure to stay on the ball!

To verify that all existing reservations meets these requirements, members can access their itinerary on delta.com and scroll down to select the “Secure Flight Passenger Data” link on the right side of the page. Then, submit the information as it appears on the non-expired government-issued photo ID. If the ticket has been purchased through a travel agency, they might also be able to add any Secure Flight information. The name provided does not have to exactly match the name on tickets or SkyMiles accounts.
